Chapter I: From the Land of Kings

We are proud to be among a select few vertically integrated, family-owned coffee companies in the world. This means we oversee every step of the journey from planting the first seed in our rich soil to delivering the perfect cup of coffee to your hands.

In 1930, Veerabadre was born in a quiet village in Chikmagalur. Orphaned early, he sought refuge and knowledge at his grandmother's home, where seeds of resilience were sown.

He returned as a young man to his parents’ old home where fifty acres of untamed forest land awaited him — an inheritance passed down through generations from a line of kings.

A visionary, he soon set his sights on coffee. With British laws making it illegal at the time, he smuggled beans into the estate, while absorbing the art from nearby British plantations.

During the early 1950s, Veerabadre and his wife Nagarathna began to slowly weave the tapestry of the estate from the ground up — traveling by bullock cart, planting each sapling by hand.

Chapter II: A family legacy

We are proud to be among a select few vertically integrated, family-owned coffee companies in the world. This means we oversee every step of the journey from planting the first seed in our rich soil to delivering the perfect cup of coffee to your hands.

By the late 1950s, the estate had undertaken an immense transformation — fom bare forest land to a hundred acres of high-quality Arabica coffee.

Their two sons, Prasanna and Girish Vasthare, learned to embrace the estate at an early age, and continued to build on their father’s legacy.

Prasanna and Girish furnished the estate with newer technology and an organized workforce, and embraced modern techniques while maintaining traditions like hand-picking and sun drying.

They improved the quality of the production while integrating processing and wholesale into the business. They also introduced many new flora into the estate's biodiversity.

Chapter III: The Third Generation

We are steadfast in our conviction that our brand must not only produce exceptional coffee but also contribute value to our society and drive meaningful, positive change. To us, this goal can only be realized by upholding a deep and abiding respect for our lands and the environment they embody.

For generations, the family has cared for the estate as creators and custodians with a deep connection to the land — with each generation enriching the next.

The Estate now seeks to share its heritage directly with the people — a passage into its authenticity, craft, and timeless dedication.

Ramya, the family's third generation, carries forward the tradition — infusing the present with the wisdom of the past, and shaping the future of this cherished heritage.

Being uniquely positioned to control the entire process from seed to cup, we direct exacting standards and unrelenting attention to detail.

The spirit of Vasthare

We hold an unwavering belief that the establishment of responsible trading systems, which harmoniously accommodate a rich natural habitat alongside coffee production, is the path to enduring success.

At the heart of Vasthare lies a commitment to specialty Arabica, nurtured by the wisdom of tradition and the unique microclimate of the hills. Each bean carries the essence of this land, a rare indulgence for those who seek purity. A journey renewed, yet steeped in origin

Vasthare carries forward the quiet wisdom of its beginnings, honouring tradition with every step. As the legacy unfolds, it remains a testament to the enduring art of cultivation, a bridge between generations, and a promise to those yet to come.

"What is not the best is not worth making."
